Have you ever noticed how much plastic you use in a day? We hadn’t either. That is, until our newest staff member Becky told us about TerraCycle. TerraCycle is an eco-friendly company that offers free recycling programs funded by brands, manufacturers, and retailers around the world to help you collect and recycle your hard-to-recycle waste. What’s more, non-profits receive points for the plastic they recycle. These points eventually convert to cash!
We started in January and have already sent out three boxes of plastic: bottle caps, Ziploc bags, yogurt and cottage cheese containers, plastic utensils, chip bags, empty toothpaste tubes, and the list goes on. It never occurred to us that many of these things are recyclable. But now we know. Because of this project, we’ve become more conscious of how much plastic we use. On the bright side, we have reduced our waste.
We invite you to join us in saving the Earth—one bottle cap at a time! You can do it from your home and it doesn’t cost anything: TerraCycle will send you a label for your box of plastic. If you have a mind to, please designate Shore House as your charity of choice and we will receive the points you accumulate. Alternately, you can bring your plastic here (279 Broadway, Suite 400, Long Branch) and we will separate it. We only ask that you please recycle plastic items with codes 1 and 2 at home; we will take items 3-7, which includes the bottle caps. We hope you will help us to make a difference!
